I created a poster painting on canvas for the coffee shop Bright Side Cafe. The cafe is located in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona. The painting portrays the front counter with flowers, a gift bag, a muffin, and coffee. In the background, the barista counter has syrups, an espresso machine, a coffee grinder, and a coffee pot. A brick wall is shown in the background along with the cafe's logo. At the bottom of the counter, the Bible verse Psalm 34:8 is written to represent the cafe's values. This Bible verse is also displayed as decor on the wall of the cafe.
To start this project, I went to the cafe and used a viewfinder to assist in sketching 30 field sketches.
I then created 36 thumbnails to gather ideas for presenting the poster.
I chose my 3 favorite thumbnails to create them into rough drafts. I chose number 3 as my final painting because it represents the experience of standing at the front of the cafe counter, along with its values and products.
Finally, I painted my desired poster onto an 18" x 24" canvas with a variety of black, grey, and white acrylic paints.
