I was the kid in kindergarten class who would steal the letter magnets off the teacher’s whiteboard because I liked the color of each one and the different shapes of all of the letters. I got caught when my parents asked where all the letter magnets on the fridge came from, and I had to return them before class. This passion for color and shapes turned into drawings and scribbles that would cover the front of my fridge. Though my mom would only let the drawings stay on the fridge for a day before she took them down or threw them away, thinking I wouldn’t notice, I always did. The unfortunate result of being an aspiring artist at a young age with a mom who is a stickler for cleanliness. However, that has never burned out the fire in my heart for creativity.
I grew to love painting, sketching, photography, crafting, sewing, floral design, and any grandma hobby you can think of that I've probably put my hands on.
Growth has always been the goal- learning how to grow as a designer, artist, and self-professed professional crafter. Whether growing my skill set or learning completely new concepts.
Looking back on these moments, I know exactly why I am pursuing graphic design today. I have always had the heart to create my ideas into a real, functioning craft. I never just wanted to be an artist, as I have always had this title. Becoming a graphic designer has given me another way to grow my craft and create a lifelong opportunity. I can’t imagine my life without this passion for design and artistry. Always having this passion from a young age has led me to believe it is a gift God has blessed me with. Knowing God gave me this gift motivates me, as he has a plan for every aspect of my life, including my creative passions.
The fridge was my first portfolio. The only difference is that now I showcase designs that my mom can’t throw away.
Sincerely,                                                                                                                                    The Alphabet Magnet Thief
