For this project, I was tasked with choosing an animal and recreating it in four different ways. I chose a lion, as it would be an engaging animal to work with and would give me a challenge, as I have never created a project with a lion.
First, I was required to choose an image of my animal. I then created an encyclopedic drawing, aiming for the lion to look as similar to the image as possible.
I then created 20 gestures, each taking 15- 30 seconds, to capture the essence of the animal. I used a variety of materials, such as drawing pencils, tempera paint, charcoal, brush pens, etc.
9 Transformations
18 Logos
Following these gestures, I created 9 transformations and 18 logos of the lion on tracing paper using drawing pencils and a Sharpie.
Transformations add new information to the animal in order to make people look longer and experience delight.
Logos were created to be corporate while standing out from the crowd and performing at small sizes.
I chose number four for the transformation. To build on the original transformation, I added more iteration and detail to the drawing. This transformation completes the goal of viewers experiencing delight, as individuals can make a connection to the story of The Lion King- yet this lion is truly dressed like a king.
I chose number six for my logo and redrew it to enhance the detail by using straight edges.
Bristol board and Micron pens were used to finalize both of these drawings.
Displayed are the final encyclopedic, logo, gesture, and transformation forms of the lion.
